Hands-On Learning Index

The Hands-On Learning Index offers a carefully curated collection of activities designed to spark creativity and joy in learning. Each activity is uniquely crafted to inspire excitement and discovery. By celebrating each child’s unique passions, our activities encourage autonomy, allowing children to choose their own adventures or collaborate in creating them.

You have the flexibility to present activities in various ways, giving your child full autonomy to choose their level of participation. This fosters a sense of ownership in their learning journey. Embrace their interests and support their learning through what they love most. The possibilities are endless, and these activities are just the beginning of the connection and trust you can build with your child. Dive into a world of Self-Directed Learning where learning is fun, engaging, and tailored to each child’s unique interests!

What is self-directed education?

Educating the Whole Person

Self-directed learning is an educational method where learners gain knowledge and skills through activities and experiences they personally select, offering them autonomy in their learning. When people think of learning outcomes and education, they usually equate it with school. Most believe that education is something teachers impart to students: teachers teach, and students become educated. In this model, teachers are the givers of education, and students are the receivers.

To truly understand education and learning, we need to think beyond traditional schooling and free ourselves from its constraints. The Alliance for Self-Directed Education states, “A useful definition for our purposes as we explore Self-Directed Education is this: Education is the sum of everything a person learns that supports them towards living a satisfying and meaningful life.”
