Guided Autonomy Program for Parenting PDA

Parenting a child with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) can feel overwhelming—but you don’t have to do it alone. The Guided Autonomy Program gives you compassionate, practical tools to reduce stress, build trust, and create a calmer, more connected home.

What Is the Guided Autonomy Program?

At the heart of Divergent Paths Home is the Guided Autonomy Program—a compassionate, practical approach designed specifically for families raising children with PDA.

I’m Stacy, and I created the Guided Autonomy Program to help families like yours thrive. I bring together 12 years of teaching experience, professional PDA training, and the lived experience of raising a child with a PDA profile myself—so you can feel supported by someone who truly understands both the science and the reality of PDA parenting.

What You’ll Gain from the Guided Autonomy Program

Through the Guided Autonomy Program, you’ll learn how to:

  • Embrace low-demand parenting techniques that reduce stress and build cooperation
  • Foster self-directed learning that honors your child’s interests and pace
  • Develop a deep understanding of PDA and the nervous system
  • Use the GUIDE Framework (Ground, Understand, Invite, Design, Empower) to create lasting connection and growth

How the Guided Autonomy Program Supports You

Through courses, workbooks, and supportive resources, the Guided Autonomy Program equips you with the tools and confidence to meet your child where they are—helping your whole family flourish together.

Breathe Life Back Into Your Home with the Guided Autonomy Program

My journey to a more peaceful home is a story of transformation and radical acceptance. With a bachelor’s degree in education and special education, a master’s in education, and years as an early interventionist, it seemed that my path into parenthood would be smooth sailing. But when my son went into burnout, it was as if all of the air had been sucked out of our home.

During that time, I also experienced my own caregiver burnout from the intensity of daily demands. We had no choice but to reexamine everything we thought we knew about parenting and strip it all away—until only the approaches that truly worked for our family remained. Low-demand parenting and self-directed learning became the cornerstones of what would later grow into the Guided Autonomy Program.

This has been an eight-year journey filled with mistakes, trial and error, and very little outside support. From that lived experience, the Guided Autonomy Program was born—combining my professional expertise with the strategies that actually brought peace back into our home.

What began as survival for our family has become the Guided Autonomy Program—a roadmap to help families like yours breathe life back into their homes, too.

Guiding families to peace from the inside out

Overwhelmed and burnt out? Low-demand parenting offers a different path. As part of the Guided Autonomy Program, it’s a powerful way to ease stress, reduce conflict, and bring more calm into your home.

Beautiful Tree with complicated roots. Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is indeed complex, yet understanding its nuances can reveal unique and beautiful aspects of the individuals who experience it. The roots of a tree can symbolize the deep, often hidden, underlying factors that contribute to PDA, while the tree itself represents the growth, potential, and individuality of each person.

The Guided Autonomy Program helps you navigate PDA by focusing on accommodations, collaborative decision-making, and safe spaces—tools that nurture your child’s growth and strengthen your family’s well-being.

Kids playing together and learning together. What is Self-Directed. Learning? Learning with autonomy through life experiences and also through more traditional ways only if chose by the learner.

“I love you.”

Low demand parenting has given me A chance to truly know my child

Before grasping the complexities of my child’s nervous system, I often found myself overwhelmed with anxiety on the rare regulated days when I could truly see him for who he was. The looming threat of dysregulation cast a shadow. Knowing that at any moment, I would bid farewell to the version of him that I knew him to truly be. Those goodbyes were excruciating.

While we still encounter some challenging days, Low Demand Parenting has gifted us with countless moments filled with ‘I love you’s’ and deep connections with my PDA son.
